Growl

Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 27, 2026

Growl is operated by Zovie Software, LLC (“Growl,” “we,” “us,” or “our”).

This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, share, and protect information when you use the Growl mobile application and related services (the “Service”), including our website at getgrowl.app.

Contact: hello@getgrowl.app

1. Who this applies to

The Service is intended for users who are 18 years of age or older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe we have collected information from someone under 18, contact us at hello@getgrowl.app and we will delete it.

2. Information we collect

2.1 Information you provide

  • Account information — name, email address, password (stored/handled by our auth provider, Supabase; we do not store your raw password on our own servers), and age (used to confirm you meet our 18+ requirement).
  • Profile information — display name, username, and profile photo if you choose to add them.
  • Preferences — cuisine/category interests and similar choices you make during onboarding or in settings.
  • Communications — messages you send us (for example, support emails), and whether you opt in to marketing emails.
  • Launch-notification signups — if you give us your email address on our website to be told when Growl becomes available, we store that address, the date you gave it, and which part of the page you entered it on. You do not need an account to do this, and giving us an address here does not create one.
  • Library and cooking activity you create — liked recipes and collections, grocery list items, recent searches, recently played recipes, recipe ratings/feedback (for example, like / love / not for me), Discover Daily picks, and similar in-app activity as the product supports them.

2.2 Information collected automatically

  • Device and usage data — app interactions, screens viewed, feature usage, approximate performance/diagnostics, device type, operating system version, network type used for media prefetch (for example, Wi‑Fi vs cellular), and similar technical data.
  • Free-tier usage — which recipes you have used under any free cook allowance and related playback progress, so we can enforce free-tier limits.
  • On-device media cache — recipe video, audio, images, and thumbnails temporarily stored on your device to improve playback.
  • Analytics — we use Amplitude for product analytics (for example, which features you use and how you move through the app) so we can improve Growl. We may also use Apple App Store analytics made available to us through Apple.
  • Approximate location — our analytics provider derives an approximate location (country or city level) from the IP address your device uses to send analytics events. We do not request or use precise location, and Growl never asks for location permission.
  • Notifications — if you allow notifications, we may schedule local cooking-timer alerts on your device and, if remote push is enabled, store a device push token for account or product notifications.
  • Subscription status — whether you have an active Growl Pro subscription (monthly or annual) and related entitlement/trial state. Payment card details are handled by Apple; we do not receive your full payment card number.

2.3 Information from third parties

  • Apple — purchase and subscription status, restore-purchase results, and App Store–related analytics Apple provides.
  • Supabase — account authentication and related account data stored in our backend.
  • Content delivery — recipe media (video, audio, images) may be loaded from our CDN (Cloudflare R2 / cdn.mycheffymedia.com). Requests for those assets are typical network requests and may include standard technical logs on those providers.

2.4 AI-generated content (not your personal data)

Recipe videos, narration audio, and related media in Growl may be created or assisted using artificial intelligence tools during our content production process. That production happens on our side before content is published. The app does not send your account data, profile, grocery lists, or cooking-session activity to third-party AI generation APIs in order to create that media. Playing a recipe uses pre-published media from our CDN (or an on-device speech fallback that stays on your device when a clip has no audio file).

3. How we use information

We use information to:

  • Create and manage your account and authenticate you
  • Provide guided cooking, playback, library, search, groceries, and related features
  • Process and manage Growl Pro subscriptions (via Apple)
  • Personalize content and recommendations based on your preferences and activity
  • Send account / transactional emails (for example, verification or password reset)
  • Send marketing emails if you opt in (for example, new recipes, product updates, or offers). You can unsubscribe at any time via the link in those emails or by contacting us
  • Tell you when Growl becomes available, if you gave us your address on our website for that purpose. We use it for that notice and nothing else, every such email carries an unsubscribe link, and you can ask us to remove your address at any time
  • Send push notifications you allow (for example, step timers)
  • Analyze usage (including via Amplitude) to improve the Service
  • Maintain security, prevent fraud/abuse, and comply with law
  • Communicate with you about the Service

4. How we share information

We do not sell your personal information for money. We may share information with:

  • Service providers that help us operate Growl, including:
    • Supabase — authentication and backend data storage
    • Amplitude — product analytics
    • Apple — App Store distribution, in-app purchases, and related services
    • Cloudflare — hosting/CDN for media and (when applicable) website hosting
    • Resend — delivery of transactional email (for example, address verification and password reset) and, where you have opted in, marketing email
  • Professional advisors (lawyers, accountants) when needed
  • Authorities when required by law or to protect rights, safety, and security
  • A buyer or successor if we are involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets (you will be notified of any material change in ownership of personal information where required)

We require service providers to use personal information only to provide services to us and in line with this policy, where applicable.

5. Data retention

We keep personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service, comply with law, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. If you delete your account or request deletion, we will delete or de-identify personal information within a reasonable period, except where we must retain it (for example, legal, security, or accounting reasons). Analytics data may be retained in aggregated or de-identified form.

An address given for launch notification is not tied to an account, so it is kept only until we have sent that notice, or until you ask us to remove it — whichever comes first.

6. Your choices

  • Account information — update profile details in the app where available, or email us
  • Marketing email — opt in at signup (or later); unsubscribe anytime via email footer or hello@getgrowl.app
  • Launch notification — email hello@getgrowl.app to have your address removed before we send it, or use the unsubscribe link in the email itself
  • Push notifications — control in iOS Settings
  • Analytics — you can also use platform-level privacy controls on your device
  • Delete account / data — email hello@getgrowl.app (in-app account deletion may be added; until then, email us and we will process the request)

7. Children’s privacy

Growl is not directed to children, and the Service is 18+ only. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18.

8. Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect personal information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure. Please use a strong unique password and keep your login credentials confidential.

9. International users

We currently focus on users in the United States. If you access the Service from outside the U.S., you understand that information may be processed in the United States and other countries where we or our providers operate, which may have different data-protection laws than your country.

10. California and other U.S. state privacy rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access, correction, or deletion of personal information, or information about our data practices. To exercise these rights, email hello@getgrowl.app. We will not discriminate against you for exercising privacy rights.

If a specific state privacy law applies to us in the future (for example, as we grow), we will update this policy as needed.

11. Third-party links and services

The Service may link to third-party sites or rely on third-party platforms (including Apple). Their privacy practices are governed by their own policies. We are not responsible for those practices.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version with a new “Last updated” date and, where appropriate, provide additional notice in the app or by email. Continued use of the Service after an update means you acknowledge the revised policy.
